Outlining the phases of actions and how to understand your own power, Winfrey shared during the address: “In it, [Zukav] talks about how every action is followed by a reaction, which we all know is the third law of motion in physics. But he also said, before there's even a thought or an action, there is an intention.”

6 Apps to Help You Be a Better Leader

6 Apps to Help You Be a Better Leader

When looking for tools to become a better leader, look no further than the app store. From simplifying teamwork and processes to relieving stress, there’s an app for that.

These apps take care of the little things, so business leaders can be the best leaders they can be:

1. Dapulse

Dapulse allows leaders to quickly know the status of projects and collaborate with team members. Within the app, users create boards that show projects, the team member leading the project, and the status of the project at each stage. Boards are customizable to create the columns and categories that make sense for each initiative.

Boards serve as an overview of what’s going on, but the platform also allows users to get a more detailed view and to communicate on each task. Each project has its own page, called a pulse, that acts like a Facebook wall. Team members can post updates, information, questions, documents, photos and anything they need to share about the project.

The app allows leaders to paint a big picture for the team to see of all that is to be accomplished. The transparent platform also builds better communication and teamwork, and keeps managers in touch with what their team members actually do on a day-to-day basis.

2. Bill.com

In the digital age, paper is a waste, especially when it comes to bills and invoices. Papers need to be processed and filed by multiple employees and are easily lost. Move payments to the cloud to simplify and expedite the process.

With Bill.com, a digital payments platform for businesses, leaders can receive, view and manage bills in one place. The app manages both payables and receivables to keep expenses clear and payments on time.

12 Things You Can Do Starting Today to Be a Better Leader

12 Things You Can Do Starting Today to Be a Better Leader

Some believe certain people are born leaders. Others think an individual can learn to be a leader. Regardless of how you may feel you obtained your leadership skills, there are always ways to enhance your abilities. This list of suggestions may inspire you to reevaluate your leadership abilities and address any issues you find need improvement.

1. Be a positive role model.

As a leader, your actions set the tone for what is appropriate behavior in the workplace. Exhibit actions that you want your team to emulate. You may establish rules of conduct or have expectations for how staff should behave at work and what actions will not be tolerated. The best way to encourage these specific actions is to correctly and precisely demonstrate these behaviors yourself.

2. Be humble.

Share the credit for successful projects with your team. If you make a mistake, readily admit to your error. Apologize when needed and admit when you do not have the solution to a problem. Demonstrate the willingness to seek answers from other sources. Such actions show your human side and help you gain the respect of employees and customers alike.

When you admit a mistake your employees feel safe admitting their mistakes, instead playing the "blame game." Accepting that individuals make mistakes will create a more cooperative atmosphere in your company.

Why Small Businesses Should Consider Bitcoin

In 2015 bitcoin finally made its mark: More than 100,000 businesses, including industry giants like Microsoft, Overstock.com and Dell, accepted it. But, what exactly is this mysterious "crypto-currency" everyone has been talking about for years? And, is it time your small business accepted it, too?

Here's what you need to know about what bitcoin is, its advantages and potential drawbacks.

What is bitcoin?

Bitcoin is a crypto-currency or an entirely digital form of money, invented in 2009. While that might not sound interesting, what sets bitcoin apart is that it's purely person-to-person, with virtually no banks, financial institutions or government bodies standing in the way between you and your money. Bitcoin relies on a technology system called blockchain that keeps your bitcoin wallet safe and secure from fraud.

The currency's digital format also makes for faster, cheaper, easier exchanges of cash, from which many small businesses may benefit. Overall, Bitcoin's assets stem from its decentralization. Blockchain, the technology bitcoin was built on, allows you to not have to rely on a bank to process your financial transactions.

12Things You Need to Know About Bitcoin

12Things You Need to Know About Bitcoin

Even the most tech savvy among us have a hard time wrapping their heads around Bitcoin. It's a hot topic and a frequent point of discussion among investors, entrepreneurs and stock traders, so you should want to know all about it.

For starters, here's an overly simplified explanation of Bitcoin: It's a digital currency (there are more than 800 now) that isn't controlled by a central authority such as a government or bank. It's created by "miners," who use computers and specialized hardware to process transactions, secure the currency's network and collect bitcoins in exchange. Supporters say it allows for more secure transactions over the internet. That's in part due to blockchain, a technology that records cryptocurrency transactions chronologically in a public digital ledger.

Bitcoin is only eight and a half years old, but it’s the oldest and most highly valued crypto currency out there. In such a short time, it’s had a rocky and controversial history, but it’s also attracted a fair share of high-profile supporters. Click through to read 11 bits about Bitcoin that will make you at least sound like you know what you're talking about next time it inevitably comes up.

So what makes the difference between a following of 500 and a following of 500,000? While A-list celebrities can have an advantage over most everyone else, other social media darlings have grown their base of fans more organically, and you can learn from their strategies.

5 Digital Marketing Trends Your Business Needs to Try

5 Digital Marketing Trends Your Business Needs to Try

We are a society tearing through the digital landscape, and there’s no hint of us slowing down anytime soon. New stars are born every day in the digital world. Some stay burning bright, while others quickly burnout.

Take for example, the Pokémon Go craze that took the world by storm in 2016. The augmented reality game exploded onto the global app scene early last summer. And while a series of technical and safety-related missteps led to its slowdown, it quickly clued marketers into the possibility of augmented reality.

On the flip side, mobile app Snapchat has held strong in the social media realm since its release in 2012. This social media starlet has clued marketers into the power of expiring content, so much so that it was offered (and rejected) a $3 billion buy-out from Facebook.

Why You Shouldn't Be an Entrepreneur

Why You Shouldn't Be an Entrepreneur

Having the freedom to choose your own schedule and work when you want. A chance to work from the beach or just work from the comfort of your own home. Building your dream product or service exactly how you decide. No boss to tell you differently, no compromises to make, no tasks you’re forced to do.

Being an entrepreneur sounds great except when it isn’t.

I speak from experience. While sharing top marketing tips on OKDORK, I founded AppSumo and Sumo, which is now an 8-figure business. (Before that, I saw what it’s like to build a business as employee no. 30 at Facebook and employee no. 4 at Mint.com.)

For all the freedom to choose your own schedule, there are 90+ hour workweeks. For every day working from the beach, there are months spent grinding away in a small apartment. For every product or service you dream of creating exactly how you want, there are bad reviews, customer complaints and months with low sales.

I’ve learned a lot from my jobs, businesses I built and fellow entrepreneurs I help. One thing I learned from teaching entrepreneurship: Entrepreneurship isn’t for everyone. The truth is, while entrepreneurship can be glamourous, that's not always the case. And there’s no shame in being a full-time employee for someone else. In fact, it might be better suited for you.

To help you figure out if you’re better suited for entrepreneurship or being an employee, I developed the “Four Ps”  a framework you can use to understand your next step.
